Aborted run (possible injury!)

I set out today with a plan to run about 4 miles at a fairly gentle pace. Unfortunately, during my warm up I notice my right hip joint ‘popping’ as I walked. I didn’t worry too much about it as it was not painful and decided to set off for the run anyway. About a quarter of a mile into the run, my hipping was ‘popping’ with every stride and I did not enjoy the feeling. I decided to abort the run and headed back to the apartment. I didn’t want to risk an injury and figured the best thing to do would be to rest it. I called my sister, who is a physiotherapist and she was not unduly concerned. She said my muscles around the hip were probably tight and recommended stretching them more. I also found this article on Runner’s World which was helpful (if only for the knowledge that I am not alone!)

I will stretch and rest today and see how I feel tomorrow.  Has anyone else been afflicted by this hip ‘popping’ condition?
