Run 18 – Building up

According to my Training Plan today is the day for my 10k long run.  I decided after seeking advice from my sister who is a seasoned runner as well as some comments on the blog, that I would try to keep increasing the distance each week for my initial 10k plan.  Last week, I added a half mile onto the previous weeks run, and this week I planned to do similar.  Again, I wanted to run at a comfortable pace and focus more on endurance than speed at the moment.

I set out with a plan to do about 7 miles and managed a little bit more than that fairly comfortably.  The first 10 or 15 minutes of the run were a little rough as my calves were a little tight (not enough stretching) but after I warmed up, I settled into a nice rhythm.  I felt great at the end and I am really looking forward to more positive steps next week.  I feel really positive about the improvements I am feeling.  Although the marathon distance still seems a long way off, I feel quietly confident that I will be able to pull this off if I keep working hard over the next 6 months.

Here are the details of my long run today:
